STEPHEN S. MICK

Stephen S. Mick is Arthur Graham Glasgow Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Administration at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.  He is also Professor of Epidemiology and Community Health in the School of Medicine.

 

Dr. Mick’s B.A. is in psychology from Stanford University.  He then earned his M.Phil. and Ph.D. in sociology at Yale University.  Dr. Mick has held faculty appointments at Middlebury College, Yale University, Oklahoma University, the University of Washington, the Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Michigan.

 

Dr. Mick most recent scholarship includes a book entitled Advances in Health Care Organization Theory, Jossey-Bass, Publishers, which appeared in February 2003.  His other publications include about 80 journal articles, several book chapters, and four edited or co-authored books.

 

Awarded a Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship, Dr. Mick spent the 1993-94 academic year in France studying that country’s health care system.  During the Spring Term 2008, he was Visiting Professor at the Université Jean-Moulin Lyon III, in Lyon, France.  He has been a consultant to the Council on Graduate Medical Education (COGME).  In the 1990s, he was a U.S. delegate to the several International Workforce Conferences, held in the United States and abroad.  Dr. Mick has served a four-year term as Chairperson on the Health Systems Research Study Section of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).  He served six years as a Commissioner on the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME), and now serves as the Treasurer on the Commission’s Board of Directors.  He also is a Board member on the David Winston Health Policy Fellowship.  He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and has also served as the Chair of the Research Committee of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
